Cultural Insights Through Literature, Film and Music

This course differs from the traditional molds of the English language classroom. The classes are based on the power of literature and cinema as a means of communication and learning. Students read texts – both traditional literature as well as history and culture, magazine/newspaper articles, online articles, among others – whose themes are intertwined with American culture, such as Patriotism, Afro-American Culture, Chicano Culture, Amish Culture, War and Peace in American Culture and much more. Multimedia resources, such as music and video, are also used to emphasize the key points of readings and enrich the discussions. This course is for students of advanced level who wish to debate current events and issues relevant to American culture and the English speaking world in general in a relaxed and enjoyable manner.
