American Culture and Literature

American Culture and Literature is an interdisciplinary course which breaks from the traditional, chronological look at literature. Through the use of a variety of mediums (films, documentaries, music, magazine and newspaper articles, as well as traditional literature) students study the diversity of regionalisms, slang, historical and cultural peculiarities, etc. in an attempt to show the richness and value of literature and culture in American society.

6 to 12 hour mini-course

The Ins and Outs of the American Dream
The Beat Generation
The Vietnam War Era
Scenes from 9/11
Horror and Halloween
Nature Imagery and Small Town America
Christmas in America, among others!
